Crafts and Creatures: My Favorite Critters From A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Giant purple space whales. Electrical wire-consuming worms. Adorable chubby puffins. The Star Wars galaxy is full of odd creatures, and in this post I picked out some of my favorites to write about. I love how the inventors of these animals gave them more information than just a name, and made them unique from other fictional or real animals, even if some do have similarities. I found a few interesting facts to share about each creature, and also made two crafts to show you: a sock purrgil, and a Loth-Cat or porg face.

My Favorite People in A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Obsessing over fictional characters is one of my favorite things to do. Their sacrifices and heroism inspire me, and their mistakes teach other lessons while making me love them more because I can often relate to their weak moments. I like analyzing why they make the choices they do in order to understand them better, which also helps me empathize with other people. Sometimes I can easily tell who is going to be my favorite character as soon as I see them, other times it takes a while for them to grow on me. But once I decide I love a character, it’s not often I change my mind. My list of favorite characters is very long, so in this post, I will be limiting it to a few of my favorites from the Star Wars universe. And these are in no particular order of favorites because it is very hard for me to rank characters, other than Leia, Han, and Luke who are usually my top favorites.

TEP’s “The Last Jedi” episode: We Need Your Help!!

We are getting so close to Star Wars: The Last Jedi right now, and I am so excited!! Sadly, I won’t be getting to see this newest installment until after Christmas, but that won’t stop me from ramping up the excitement for the film with The Elven Padawan! Since you probably won’t be hearing a whole lot concerning The Last Jedi from me after the release, I’d like to try something new and fun before it, and I need all your help!

Some of you may have already seen this on my Twitter feed, but for those of you who haven’t, I still want your help. I’m trying to put together a “community input” episode for The Last Jedi. You know how many news channels often go out on the streets and ask random people they see questions concerning different things, then clip all these bits together into one presentation? I’ve always loved to watch those, so I’ve decided to try it out with The Elven Padawan podcast!

Here’s how it all works, as I posted about it on Twitter:

Does all that make sense? In short, I’m trying to collect as many people’s input on these questions as possible, then edit them all together and release the podcast in time for the premier of The Last Jedi.

Like I said in the tweets, you don’t have to do anything fancy. Just let me know if you’re interested (you can email me at: shay@elvenpadawan.com), and I’ll send you the all the info, including the questions and instructions for how to get them back to me, and you can be part! And like I said, all you have to have is a smartphone, tablet, or computer with an audio recorder (which almost all devices have reloaded onto them when purchased), and some excitement for The Last Jedi.

As of right now I have a few people interested, but I’d like to get this out as much as possible and get as many people as I can involved. It’s a fun project that I’m really excited to see turn out, and I think it might help gather some more attention for The Elven Padawan. So if you have friends or family members who might be interested as well, pass this on to them, or get together in a group and record all your answers at once!

I know this is a bit of a short notice, as The Last Jedi releases at midnight Friday morning for most people, and many are getting in to see it even earlier than that on Thursday, and I’m hoping to get it out Thursday night at the latest. But I still think we can do this and make it awesome with your help. 🙂

So who’s up for it?? Cummon, Star Wars fans, let’s do this thing!! 😀

Captain Phasma is “Back” in new TLJ spot!

As the hype leading up to the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi continues, yet another TV spot for the film has been released, featuring our first new line from feared commander of the First Order ranks, Captain Phasma!

“So good to have you back”, indeed, Captain!

While this spot was mostly a remixed version of shots we’d seen before, we were treated to a new line from Captain Phasma, who didn’t get many moments to herself from the previous trailers. And of course, we can’t forget Chewie’s reaction to an overstimulated porg on board the Millenium Falcon!!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is rated PG-13 for “Sequences of Sci-Fi Action and Violence”, and arrives in theaters December 15, 2017.

“Tempt”: New TLJ spot seems to be changing things up!

A new TV spot from the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi features previously unseen footage and lines from Rey and Luke!!

It seems that many of us may have been totally wrong in our predictions for where Rey, Luke, and all our other heroes are headed, as well as where the Force itself is pointing them!!

In this brand-new TV spot, we hear Rey repeat a line we all probably have permanently imprinted on our brains by now, as Luke asks her, “What do you see?” But this time, we hear a slightly different answer from the hopeful young student of the Force…

“Light… Darkness…. and…. something Else….” she breathes.

This seems to give a very different implication than what many fans predicted, that Rey would discover and gain the ability to channel the energy of the Force in a way many fans seem to theorize is only possible through the ultimate balance of both Light and Darkness. To be honest, I’ve always had problems with this theory myself, primarily because of what it does to the overall philosophy of the Jedi, as well as other conflicts to the way in which we’ve always understood the Force to work in canon.

But now, it seems something slightly different is at play…. and the most concerning part of it all is another new line from this spot…

“It’s calling me!” Rey says in an almost pleading tone, and her voice betrays that something is happening deep within her being, something that seems to be tearing her apart. This is all immediately followed by Luke’s commands to “Resist it!”, and finally him screaming her name at her, seemingly in desperation, trying to break her free from the hold of whatever is trying to suck her irretrievably into its grasp.

What could it all mean??! I know I’m intrigued, and simply can not wait for this movie to come and our answers with it!

What do you all think of this new spot and what its implications could mean for Rey, Luke, and the future of the Jedi Order? Let me know in the comments below, I always love discussing these things with you!!

The Last Jedi: “Heroes” | Rating of TLJ

Another TV spot for Star Wars: The Last Jedi is up on the Star Wars official YouTube page!!

And it finally gives us some Finn!!!

YAY we finally get some stuff from our favorite top-First-Order-stormtrooper-turned-Resistance-fighter!!!

My favorite part?

Poe: “Finn! You must have a thousand questions!”

Finn: “Where’s Rey?”

Also, The Last Jedi has finally received its rating:

Apparently it’s been given a PG-13 for “Sequences of Sci-Fi Action and Violence”. Which is honestly not all that surprising, given the bits we know of the film so far, as well as the current position of most typical sci-fi/fantasy/action adventure films.
